SIM Card Security Gap Threatles Billions of Mobile Phones
Celah Keamanan Kartu SIM Ancam Miliaran Ponsel
Jakarta, CNN Indonesia - The security gap in SIM cards is said to threaten more than one billion mobile phones. This security gap is called Simjacker.

Simjacker has been used by hackers to track the user's location, intercept calls, and send short messages to the victim's cellphone.

Reporting from Tech Radar, Simjacker was discovered by researchers at AdaptiveMobile Security. Researchers say Simjacker is a big jump in the hacking ecosystem.

Simjacker is considered more sophisticated and complex than previous versions of attacks. Previously the attacks were more targeted at the cellular core network. The Simjacker attack involves short messages that contain types of code such as spyware that are sent to cellphones. Then Simjacker will direct the SIM card to take over the cellphone.

"This vulnerability is currently being actively exploited by certain private companies that work with the government to monitor individuals," AdaptiveMobile Security researchers said.
